Gone but not forgotten

My Bicycle

July 31, 2009 – January 7, 2011

Sweet Cream Schwinn-Ford, dearly beloved bicycle of Kara Ford, was unexpectedly taken from this life on Friday, January 7th after a short stay at UTMB hospital in Galveston. Sweet Cream, born July 31, 2009 in Houston, Texas was a life-long resident of Galveston Island. An avid cyclist, she loved being outdoors and enjoyed the fresh salty air. Her favorite places to travel included Arlan’s Market, The Yoga Haven, the shops on Postoffice Street, along with countless other bars & eateries on the East Side.

Sweet Cream is preceded in death by two siblings lost in the flood of Hurricane Ike. She is survived by her partner, Kara, of 1 ½ years. Though their time together was brief, Sweet Cream has left a lasting impression & many great memories. She will be remembered for her reliability, beauty, & sense of humor. One of her most endearing qualities was the ability to make anyone smile after hearing her New Belgium bicycle bell ring as she passed by. Cheerfully, she rode the East End streets of Galveston with Kara. Tragically, she was taken too soon.

In lieu of flowers, Kara wishes all donations be made to Bike Thieves Be Damned of Galveston, a foundation honoring Sweet Cream, aimed at ending bike theft in Galveston & bringing about the demise of such perpetrators.

  1. Damn kara...I'm about to cry over your stolen bike! Very well written I might say...if you get tired of nursing, maybe you could write obituaries!
